FAQs
If you have questions, please contact Wendy McGar (wmcgar@edpa.com) at EDPA.
Q: Do I have to have my entry in your hands on February 15th or must it simply be post marked on February 15th and can arrive at a later date?
A: Your entries MUST be postmarked on February 15 and can arrive anytime within the next several days after that date.
Q. Do you have to be a sophomore or junior to enter?
A: No, the competition has now been opened up to sophomore through graduate level full time students. See Introduction page for prize details.
Q: What is the best way for me to present my design ideas in this competition?
A: Most importantly, carefully follow presentation instructions. Remember that you will not be on hand to discuss and explain your design concepts to the judges so your design concept must really stand out from the other entries. In past competitions the entries that have been presented in model form have most often generated the greatest interest and discussion amongst the judges. But by far, the single most important thing is to create a well thought out, bold, creative design for this fictitious new company.
Q: If I send you a model of my design concept do you have any suggestions as to how I should pack the model so that it does not break during transit?
A: From my observations of the successful shipments, I suggest that you build the model out of relatively light weight materials and try to avoid using any heavy building materials that can break free and bump, or bounce around inside the shipping container. Supporting delicate free-floating design elements from underneath and from the sides will help to ensure that the component does not break free and cause any other damage. Styrofoam peanuts have been used extensively but are a real pain to remove from the model when it is being unpacked and sometimes cause damage to delicate components when they get wedged between components.
It is probably best to put the model box into another box (double-box) so that punctures to the outside box do not cause any damage to interior model components.
Be sure to clearly identify any and all entry components that you include with your entry.
